Alice Springs could see a ‘total backflip’ with alcohol restrictions

Sky News North Australia correspondent Matt Cunningham says he expects to see an “all-out race” over the decision to allow alcohol back into some camps in the city of Alice Springs.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News political editor Andrew Clennell, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the decision was under review and they would consider making it an “opt-out” initiative.

“That means communities would have to make a special case if they wanted alcohol in,” Cunningham told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.

“That’s not what was done, basically the faucet was turned back on and a lot of people said, ‘Well, they should have had to argue why alcohol should have come to these communities in first place”.
