“Many people” who experience addiction will have experienced childhood trauma: psychotherapist

South Pacific private psychotherapist Diane Young says people who have an addiction usually suffer from childhood trauma, which could be because a person carries “the shadow of the family”.

She said that in general, people who have experienced childhood trauma “don’t feel safe in the world.”

“Many people who experience addiction will have had childhood trauma, not everyone who has experienced childhood trauma will become an addict,” he told Sky News Australia.
