New York
Although Times Square lights up year-round, it looks like it might have a special glow on New Year’s Eve. There is a particular event called the Ball Drop.
Basically, a ball descends a specially designed flagpole, starting at 11:59 PM and resting at midnight to signal the start of the new year. It’s a free-to-attend event as dozens of people flock to the venue to join in the fun.

Rio de Janeiro
It’s Samba City, so naturally there are parties all over town.
But Copacabana Beach is definitely the place to be for the big firework displays as everyone takes advantage of the warm New Year’s Eve weather the city is blessed with.
Sydney
Speaking of fireworks, the one held in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Opera House every year on NYE is truly a sight to behold.
Crowds flock to the site well in advance to camp out in the open spaces in anticipation of the grand display.
