Three lucky Australians are preparing to enter the new year as billionaires after winning a share of a $100 million lottery jackpot.
Two of the winning tickets in the first division were from New South Wales, and one from Queensland in Powerball drawing 1389, drawn on Thursday 29 December.
Each entry takes home a mammoth split prize of $33,333,333.34.
The two New South Wales tickets were sold online, while the Queensland ticket was purchased from Nextra Forest Lake News at Forest Lake Village Shopping Centre.
One shocked winner said the payout had “changed the family’s life in the space of five minutes”.
“This has completely changed my family’s life in the space of five minutes! I don’t even know where to start!
“Am I dreaming? I need to pinch myself to make sure this is real.”
The man said that the purchase of a ticket for the particular drawing was done on a whim.
“I don’t know what to say. We only play once in a while. We actually play Powerball very rarely!” he said
“My wife said, ‘Why not, let’s buy a raffle ticket!’ I’m so glad I did!”
Another winner, a woman from Durack in Queensland, bought the ticket as a Christmas present.
“I just jumped on the roof and screamed! The kids thought there was a cockroach in the kitchen,” she said.
“I bought this ticket for Christmas. Thank you so much. That’s some coin!
“This will definitely change our lives. Not only will this help my family, but it will also help us move forward with a better life.”
There were also 3,115,707 prizes worth more than $56.5 million won in divisions two through nine in Thursday’s Powerball drawing.
Among those prizes were 33 division two wins worth $47,444.20 each.
