South Africa is ‘Africa’s best culinary destination’



South Africa’s culinary industry has been in the spotlight throughout 2022; It has been recognized for its restaurants and the World Culinary Awards have collectively appreciated the country as a whole.

The third edition of the World Culinary Awards recently honored countries around the world with the best kitchens, restaurants, culinary destinations and more.

The World Culinary Awards is a global initiative that aims to recognize and reward excellence in the culinary industry on a global scale.

South Africa is a top culinary destination

South Africa was awarded as the best culinary destination in Africa. Overall, he was ranked 16th globally.

Tourism South Africa’s director general of global public relations, communications and stakeholder relations, Thandiwe Mathibela said in a statement that it was a huge success for our chefs and restaurants.

“This is extremely special. This recognition destination that South Africa has received in the culinary space is proof that we have more than just wildlife. We also have stunning landscapes and award-winning restaurants. We are simply a stunning destination that offers a wide variety of ‘memorable experiences.’

It was not a big surprise as the best restaurant in South Africa, La Colombe, was awarded the best restaurant in Africa.

The Cape Town restaurant was also rated three stars by the Eat Out Awards, meaning expert judges rate its food between 90 and 100%.

Africa’s Best New Restaurants went to Stellenbosch’s Post & Pepper Restaurant and Africa’s Best Food Festival went to the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival.

Cape Town

It is well known that Cape Town restaurants have a good standing, not only locally but also abroad.

Restaurants such as La Colombe and the FYN restaurant have, over the last two years, been highly rated by foodies.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 ranked FYN in the Western Cape at number 37.

This is the highest entry for the South African restaurant. Last year, FYN Restaurant was placed at number 92.

The list is chosen by an Academy made up of 1,080 restaurant critics, chefs, restaurateurs and gourmets from 27 regions of the world. This year, 24 countries from five continents and 12 new entries made the top 50.

Restaurant FYN thanked World’s 50s Best for the “amazing news” as the relatively new restaurant, which opened three years ago, has already been ranked so highly.
