Which TV show had the most influence on fashion?

They make and break trends, and influence our outfits like never before. And we are not talking about luxury brands or Kim Kardashian, but TV shows, which have become great sources of inspiration.

Indeed, within months, “Euphoria”—the most influential fashion show of the year—made the Y2K aesthetic more desirable than ever.

Some TV shows are inseparable from fashion. “Gossip Girl” and “Sex and the City” have proven this time and time again, managing to propel a brand or designer to dizzying heights of popularity with just one episode.

But in recent years, the influence of TV shows on the world of fashion has gone beyond anything we’ve seen before. Dramas like “Squid Game” or “Lupin”, with arguments far removed from the folklore of fashion, have managed to become true trends.

This phenomenon has transformed simple fictional characters into major fashion influencers.

The return of Y2K

In this sense, “Euphoria,” the drama starring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie and Barbie Ferreira, now dominates, as the most influential TV series in fashion in 2022.

A study by fast fashion brand Boohoo * reports no fewer than 132,900 monthly searches worldwide relating the series to fashion.

These numbers are impressive, especially considering that the show’s second season aired in early 2022. The study also shows that the term “Euphoria outfits” was searched an average of 121,000 times per month, which is more than for all other TV series in the Top 10 combined.

While all the stars of the show are now considered fashion icons, keep in mind that Alexa Demie, aka Maddy Perez, stood out in particular this year for contributing greatly to the resurgence of the year 2000 in our wardrobes.

From low-rise pants and cropped tops to bow tie accessories, necklaces and even jumpsuits, countless fashion pieces seen in the show have made their way into wardrobes throughout the year, fueled long after the broadcast of the show by icons such as Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid. . .

All of this shows how much these TV shows are influencing fashion, especially through social media and therefore the younger generations.

French chic

Although far behind “Euphoria”, “Emily in Paris” – the third season of which arrives on December 21 on Netflix – is also fueling the trends, with no less than 39,900 monthly global searches for related terms with the fashion pieces of the fair. This success has clearly contributed to raising the profile of French chic style – even if this is a bit of a caricature in the romantic comedy show -, turning it, in turn, into one of the most important fashion trends of ‘this year.

Berets, blazers, high boots and leopard print coats are some of the pieces that have been boosted by the series.

The rest of the ranking includes “Stranger Things” (28,800 monthly searches), which has revived some nostalgia for ’80s fashion, “Peaky Blinders” (18,200) and “Bridgerton” (14,400), which has sparked trends unexpected items such as corsets or long gloves. And although these have not yet left their mark on the street, they have gone through all the social networks.

Note that “Euphoria” is also the show that has had the most influence on fashion ever. However, this finding should be approached with caution, as series such as “Gossip Girl” and “Sex and the City” – which aired in the late 1990s and early 2000s – did not benefit from the analysis of this type of search data on platforms such as Google at that time.

Therefore, it is difficult to determine which drama has really been the most influential of all time in the world of fashion.
