A young boy found buried under the floorboards of his Arkansas home had been dead for 15 weeks, killed when his mother’s boyfriend pushed his head into a toilet as “punishment,” according to gruesome court records .
Blu Rolland’s decomposing body was found Friday, her sixth birthday, wrapped in “multiple layers of plastic bags” under “freshly nailed boards” in her Moro home, according to an affidavit obtained by NBC News.
His father’s family had raised the alarm after Blu’s sister was found with severe burns, and the boy was repeatedly kept away from scheduled custody visits, the New York Post reports
Blu’s mother, Ashley Rolland, 28, who has a large black eye in her booking photo, was quick to blame her boyfriend, Nathan Bridges, 33, after they were both arrested the day after the terrible discovery, said the medium.
She told police her abusive boyfriend killed Blu on Sept. 9 by shoving her head into the toilet as “punishment” for biting his finger, the affidavit said.
The mother claimed she was in another room at the time, saying she went into the bathroom when Bridges left and saw her son “struggling to breathe, and his body was limp.”
She told cops that her boyfriend then “punched a hole in the wooden floor, dug a hole in the ground and buried [Blu] under the house”.
However, a witness named Rebecca Fiting told police that Ashley Rolland told her that “Blu had come out of the bathroom with his face/body swollen and foaming at the mouth before he collapsed and died.”
The mother said she “didn’t know what to do and buried Blu under the floorboards,” according to Fiting, whose relationship to the suspect was not disclosed, NBC said.
The children’s father, Ashley’s ex-husband Dustin Rolland, 30, filed a complaint for “refusal to allow visitation as ordered” on Sept. 14, not knowing his son had died for five days, according to his ex-wife’s timeline.
It was his own mother, Karen Rolland, who finally called the police after Blu, once again, could not be turned in for a visit, but his sister made it out with a badly bruised head from severe burns.
The grandmother told NBC News that the girl’s clothes were soaked in urine, she “could barely walk” and her first request was “water and something to eat.”
“I told him he was safe, and just the look on his face was pure terror,” she told the network.
Ashley Rolland told police Bridges also inflicted those injuries on her daughter, saying he held her under hot water “as punishment for her behavioral problems,” according to the affidavit.
An online fundraiser that had raised more than $25,000 by Friday also showed horrific burns on the girl’s stomach.
“This child’s hair had been cut off, she is malnourished, her ribs are broken and there are many burns on her body in various stages of healing,” he said.
Ashley Rolland and Bridges are charged with capital murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, endangering the welfare of a child and assault. Rolland also faces two additional counts of permitting the abuse of minors.
Both are being held without bail and will appear in court on January 17.
The children’s father told NBC that he “had been trying to fight for my children.”
“I wish I had been there a long time ago, but she was the one who stopped me from having my children,” he said of his ex-wife, whom he married in December 2015 before divorcing in June ‘last year.
“I don’t want anyone to think this was my fault. I love my kids so much,” she said.
