Four-year-old boy gets caught in Airlie Beach claw machine after trying to steal stuffed animals

A four-year-old girl found herself trapped inside a claw machine when a plan to catch a teddy bear went awry.

Mum Melanie Pike was in a pub in Airlie Beach, Queensland, when she discovered her daughter Poppy was stuck in one of the fun staples.

“The girls were playing outside and the next minute my twin daughters ran in and said, ‘mum, Poppy’s stuck in the vending machine.’

Sure enough, the girl found herself looking distraught inside the claw machine, surrounded by stuffed toys and wondering how she was going to get out herself, Channel 7 News reported.

Poppy had been sent on a mission by her sisters to get some teddy bears from the machine. Although several were found scattered on the floor around the machine, Poppy couldn’t figure out how to get out after the diabolical crime spree.

“My partner was shocked but I started laughing,” Ms Pike said.

“How are we going to get you out?” she said to a sad looking Poppy.

A rescue plan was hatched whereby Poppy sat in the machine and was then gently pulled by her legs through the opening she had squeezed through.

“Have you learned your lesson? Are you going to steal more?” Mrs. Pike asked her daughter.

“No,” replied a now much happier poppy.

However, some people online had sympathy for the young woman, considering how difficult the machines are to win a prize.

“The only way to get one of these harp prizes is to steal it,” said one.

It’s not the first time a child has crawled into a claw machine, desperate for toys.

In 2018, firefighters had to rescue a boy in Florida who went on a claw machine mission.

In Titusville, east of Orlando, Mason climbed through a small opening in the back of the machine to look for a toy that had eyes. Then he couldn’t find the way out.

However, Mason was having such a good time that he started crying when the rescuers tried to retrieve him.

In 2017, a three-year-old boy got stuck in a toy machine at a business in Rouse Hill in Sydney’s north-west.

Comments on a Facebook post about it suggested that several other children had been trapped in the same machine in the past.

They are not just small humans; Cats have also been known to crawl into claw machines. A cat was photographed very happily in her cozy metal and glass box relaxing on a sea of teddy bears wondering what all the fuss was about.
